The Newchurch parish register survives from 1710, with Bishop's Transcripts 1725-1868, microfilmed on FHC film# 104896 and in IGI batch C033591.

There were these THOMAS families in Newchurch from around 1700.

"My family"  headed by Henry c.1710-1756, who married Jane (Stevens?) in 1734, and baptised 3 children at Newchurch: Elizabeth 1736,  John 1739,  and William 1744.

"Family 2" head by William c.1700 who married Catherine Whitchurch at Itton in 1727, and baptised 2 children at Newchurch: John 1728 and Jane 1730.

John 1728 baptised a daughter Anne in 1757

"Family 3" headed by John c.1741- , who married Elizabeth, and baptised 6 children at Newchurch: John 1766, Mary 1768, John 1770, James 1777, Sarah 1781, William 1785

(John 1766 may have married Margaret DAVID at Bedwelty  in 1789)

James 1777 married Elizabeth of Chepstow,   baptised 3 children at Newchurch: Mary 1802, John 1804, James 1808, and 15 grandchildren........

John 1804 married Elizabeth Williams of Portskewett,  5 children, lived at Glyn near Itton, (interesting that that is where my 5XG grandfather lived in 1739, and Thomas THOMAS died in 1778)  

James 1808 married Rebecca of Shirenewton, 10 children, lived at Trap Farm on the Raglan Road


"Family 4" headed by Thomas 1747 from Wolvesnewton, who married Anne Stevens at Newchurch in 1772, and baptised 6 children at Newchurch:

George 1773, Mary 1775, John 1783, William 1783, Anne 1784, Elizabeth 1787.

George 1773 married Ann LEWIS at Wolvesnewton, baptised John at Newchurch 1797 (John is the only known descendant, unmarried in 1871)

"Family 5" headed by George c.1736 married Mary,  baptised 2 children at Newchurch: Margaret 1761-1761, Richard 1762-1763.

My family:

presumed relative Thomas THOMAS of the Glyn was buried at Newchurch graveyard on 25 May 1778; his headstone survives and reads "Underneath this stone lieth the body of Thomas THOMAS who departed this life in the year of our Lord 1778" It is surmised that Thomas may be a brother of Henry)

Glyn and Glyn Farm are in East Newchurch near Itton Common.

5XG grandfather Henry was buried at Newchurch on 17 Dec 1756

Gen.2. 4XG grandfather John 1739 married Mary THOMAS at Newchurch on 2 Feb 1765, and they baptised 4 children there: William 1768, Elizabeth 1778, Thomas 1785, and 3XG grandfather James  1774-1851

4XG grandfather John was buried on 19 Dec 1796.

Gen.3.  3XG grandfather James baptised at Newchurch 25 April 1774, married Elizabeth Michael at Lanvihangel Totymynydd 31 December 1794,

and all their children were baptised there, including GG grandfather John in 1795.

Gen.5.  Great Uncle Thomas THOMAS born 1824 baptised sons John 1856 & Thomas 1860 in Newchurch, and resided there at the 1861 census.
